"And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" Romans 10:15
A highlight of our work stateside happened each summer at Camp Allen, in Navasota TX. Joni and Friends Family Retreat hosts happiness for a full week of fun. For ten consecutive years, ministry to families impacted by disabilities gave us a slice of heaven as children, young and old laughed wholeheartedly and smiled like there was no tomorrow.
Our time just south of the Border first took us into the orphanages of Nuevo Leon as well as working alongside a local group of believers doing ministry to people living at the landfill. We partnered with East West for three visits to Chiapas to work in rural and remote regions controlled by Zapatistas.
We traveled to Bolivia in 2003 with a legend in disability ministry to deliver wheelchairs and mobility equipment. Limited knowledge of Spanish did not deter the communication of the Good News, shared with laughter, love and hope. Thousands of children ministered to at schools, hospitals, churches and Compassion International programs.
When a team from East West went to Haiti for children's ministry, the 2008 hurricanes had done significant damage. We were able to visit rural and remote villages and bring promises from the King of Kings! The Presidential elections were taking place stateside, but we were not deterred from the mission we had been sent forth.
Spring and Fall of 2002 took us to the Communist Island nation of Cuba with Joni and Friends Wheels to the World program. We delivered wheelchairs, bibles and joy to the families and children who arrived early each morning to receive a gift they could never have afforded (a wheelchair) or acquired (a Bible).
